This website is primarily concerned with the ascendants and descendants of the Bartons of Carr House Weldbank, Chorley, Lancashire, England. It is a project long in gestation and conceived out of a desire to commit my knowledge and those of others in our family to a permanent record both for us and for our descendants. Our endeavours will, it is hoped, be of interest to those of us who may have a curiosity as to their fore bearers and their relatives living today.
The Carr House Bartons have been chosen as the seminal point of reference for our ascendants and descendants since it is from those who lived there that the present English and Irish branches of the family descend.
Carr House was the home of James Barton and his wife Mary Barton (nee Turner) at the close of the 19th. and first decades of the 20th. Century . It has long since been demolished, a victim of modernity . This website, however, records its existence, those who lived there and something of their lives, their ascendants, and of those descended from them.
Mention has already been made of two branches of the family, The English and The Irish . These are dealt with under those headings . The former is descended from James and Mary’s second son John(known as ‘Jack’ ; latter from his younger brother, Oswald . For more about these see “About Us”.
The structure of the website also records the Family Tree of the Bartons of Carr House their ascendants and descendants but will ultimately have links to the family trees of those with whom these Bartons married . There are a series of pages which record the Heraldry and Achievements of these families , a photo gallery , personal profiles ,and a history about us . We commend our labours as an enrichment to the lives all who care to visit but most of all would like to think that time spent here will bring some enjoyment .
The Hon. Mr. Justice Bernard Barton , G .C. L. J,. 5th.October 2014.
